Gates Foundation and CRTC awards advance Fox Theatre renovation

WALSENBURG — Last week brought win after win for the Fox Theatre Walsenburg. On Monday the Gates Family Foundation granted $40,000 toward completion of Phase II of the Fox Theatre Renovation Project. The following Tuesday, Colorado Creative Industries selected the Fox for the Community Revitalization Tax Credit award in an amount up to $333,750.

These contributions represent progress toward reopening the theatre and a major push toward long-term stability. The tax credits will make it possible to create an endowment fund that supports operations and reduces dependency on grant funding.

The applicant pool was extremely competitive — 26 applicants requesting more than four times the available funding. Community Engagement and Project Impact comprised half of the Fox’s selection score.
