Fox Theatre timeline, 1917 to 2026

  1. 1917

    Opens as the Star Theatre

    Paul Krier’s Star Theatre brings vaudeville and moving pictures to Main Street.

  2. 1923

    A Wurlitzer arrives

    A Hope-Jones pipe organ — the theatre organ that scored the silent era.

  3. 1941

    Remade Art Deco — the Fox

    Fox West Coast remodels in Art Deco. The streamlined marquee that still defines the corner dates from here.

  4. 1986

    The screen goes dark

    The commercial house closes. For a generation, Main Street loses its cinema.

  5. 1994

    On the State Register

    Volunteers save the building; Colorado lists it on the State Register of Historic Places in November.

  6. 2014

    A $60,000 digital projector

    County-wide fundraising buys digital cinema so first-run movies can return — proof of demand.

  7. 2017

    The marquee is relit

    Gordon Sign brings the 1941 neon back to light; a Christie laser projector follows the same year.

  8. 2024

    Phase 1 complete

    Structure, roof, and the first insulation in the building’s history — finished in January.

  9. 2026

    Lit again

    390 seats, funded back to life. Phase 2 in the homestretch.
