Hombrecito de Fuego returns September 27 with art, music, and community traditions

WALSENBURG, Colorado — Huajatolla Heritage Foundation and Warm Cookies of the Revolution will present Hombrecito de Fuego on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Huerfano County Community Center, 928 Russell Ave. in Walsenburg. Admission is free.

The event invites the community to celebrate diversity, history, and traditions through music, art, and introspection. Because of concerns about water and fire, organizers will use a small Hombrecito instead of the large version. The small figure will carry participants’ intentions.

Warm Cookies of the Revolution

Warm Cookies of the Revolution gets regular people engaged in crucial civic issues by creating innovative and fun arts and cultural programs.

Doors open at 1 p.m. with an opening ceremony. A free lunch will be served until the food runs out. From 1 to 5 p.m., local artists will invite guests to explore their own creativity. Hands-on art is coordinated by Hugh Keating and Liam Orr.

The afternoon performance schedule is:

  • 1 p.m. — Doors open, opening ceremony, and free lunch until the food runs out
  • 1:30 p.m. — Los Vecinos Bailadores, the dancing neighbors from Antonito
  • 2:30 p.m. — Aztlán drummers
  • 3 p.m. — Local talent
  • 4 p.m. — Mariachi Diamante and El Fandango dancers
  • 5 p.m. — Procession outside and gathering for the ceremony
  • 6 p.m. — Dynamix
  • 7 p.m. — Band break and lighting of the Hombrecito
  • Until 8 p.m., and possibly later — Laughter, listening, and dancing, followed by a closing benediction

Dynamix closes the celebration

Popular Tejano group Dynamix will take the closing music slot beginning at 6 p.m.

The outdoor part of the event begins at 5 p.m. with a procession, gathering, and ceremony. A food truck will have food available for purchase. At 7 p.m., Dynamix will pause for the lighting of the Hombrecito. Laughter, listening, and dancing will continue until 8 p.m., and possibly later, before a closing benediction.

An all-day vintage car show, community resources, and a founding-families photo display will also be available.
