Celebrating 50 years of the Libre Commune in south

WALSENBURG — On Thursday, August 23 at 7 pm, the Fox Theatre Walsenburg, at 715 Main St. , in collaboration with the Museum of Friends, will present three or four short films by Kenny Schneider. The films explore that wide open period in the mid to late 1960’s and are part of MOF’s exhibition “Libre, 50 Years” the first film “Building Libre” 1967 is actual footage of members building a structure. The 2nd film, “Park Place Gallery” shot in New York City 1967, depicts the young cadre of artists at the apex of New York raw energy where art, music, dance, and performance came together.

The 3rd film depicts the iconic Hog Farm in a public spectacle from the same period 1967. Kenny Schneider is an extraordinary artist with an insatiable appetite for risky adventure and lust for life uncommon in today’s world, his heart bigger than the body containment. Kenny’s experience includes working with and producing Sylvester Stallone’s first demo, one that propelled Stallone’s career and the Rocky Balboa films. Kenny also worked for MPO Videotronics the premiere video company that brought us Woodstock Nation, the acclaimed film of the early 70’s.

He studied with the well know Austrian artist Oskar Kokoschka, receiving the Oskar Kokoschka prize for creative excellence. He won an award at the Yale Film Festival and a Visual Arts Fellowship from both the Colorado Council of Arts and the National Endowment. He was a member of the filmmakers cooperative and was Video Production Professor at Trinidad State University Junior College. His work is located in many private and public collections including Mel Brooks and Ann Bancroft, Ms.

The film showings are free with a suggested donation, and all proceeds with help the MOF exhibition and public program schedule for 2018/19 as the Spring Creek Fire has adversely affected their funds.
