Fox Theatre sole focus for former Spanish Peaks Community Foundation

WALSENBURG — The Fox Theatre Walsenburg is the new name for the former Spanish Peaks Community Foundation. New president David Wise said in a press release, “our sole focus is the success of the theatre and its role as a cultural resource in contributing to the downtown revitalization of Walsenburg.”

With a new name, mission, and board, the organization identified three short-term priorities:

  1. Acquisition of a new digital projector (estimated cost $40,000)
  2. Reopening the theatre for first-run and other film showings
  3. Repair of the neon marquee and painting of the east façade (already underway)

The board also planned expanded programming. A “yucks-for-bucks” fundraiser called Brew Ha Ha was set for September 16 — beer and cider tasting with stand-up comedy featuring Mike Stanley.
