Fox Theatre efforts go statewide

WALSENBURG — The Spanish Peaks Alliance for Arts and Education’s campaign to buy a digital projector for the Fox Theatre expanded beyond the county line.

At a statewide meeting, SPAAE reported $17,000 raised from roughly 200 donors toward the approximately $70,000 goal. The county-wide mailing that began in October 2012 continued to bring in contributions from residents who wanted first-run movies to stay on Main Street.

The fundraising push reflected a hard industry deadline: distributors were moving to digital prints, and without a new projector the Fox could not show new releases.
