Fox Theatre Walsenburg: upgrade update

WALSENBURG — It might not look like a lot is happening at the Fox Theatre, but the board had been doing substantial organizational work behind the scenes.

The board executed a new lease with the county for a 40-year term — the last requirement before submitting the State of Colorado Historic Preservation Tax Credit application, then under review. Those credits would support infrastructure rehabilitation for movies, music, and comedy alike.

The board also adopted a board manual, articles of incorporation, bylaws, and an operations manual. A budget and marketing plan were still in progress.

On the building exterior, work focused on repairing the marquee and repainting the east façade. Gordon Sign Company of Denver surveyed the marquee after spring hail damage and provided concept murals for the theatre.

Fundraising continued through Brew Ha Ha on September 16 and an online silent auction for holiday getaways.
